Abbondonza!

Yet another con of living in Northern Florida - the absence of Trader Joe's.

Luckily - my Philadelphia area father and sister come through with a humongous package every three months or so.

The latest one arrived today...

Luca's favorite - vanilla Joe Joe's cookies.

A close second...

...popping the bubble wrap.

Thanks, Pop-Pop and Cole-Cole!

Yue Yue

I hung out with Phoebe - a.k.a Yue Yue - for about an hour today while Luca was at school.

She's so cute, I want to swallow her whole.

After a lunch of chicken, hummus and apple sauce, we had a bit of play time.

Raspberries...

Concentrating...

This baby gets sweeter by the day. My teeth hurt just looking at her.

Parent Night

Tonight was Parent Night at the Montessori school - from six to seven p.m. I miraculously got Luca to nap for about an hour before a quick dinner, but - having woken him up in the middle of REM sleep - he was teetering on the edge of insanity. Unfortunately, I joined him on that edge - but we both managed to recover and made it out the door as soon as Debbie got home (from a three-day business trip).

When we arrived, the small classroom was abuzz with parents and children, so Luca needed a few minutes to adjust to the change of scene in what is usually a pretty calm space. He finally fell into the swing of things and - before long - he started showing us some of the "work" he does on Thursdays and Fridays.

After about a half hour of individual work, they all got on their line and their teacher led them in singing a few songs. I totally teared up looking at them - so attentive in their circle - and listening to their sweet little voices. It is true that I am a dork - but I blame the tears on the hormones.

After their singing, we all went outside. The kids ran around, the parents talked and we all gotten bitten by mosquitos. Ah, fall in Florida.

Since Luca is generally not very forthcoming with a daily report after school - it was nice for us to see some of what goes on there after I drop him off. It was amazing to watch all of them - so careful with their work, so precise in their actions and so adept at neatly putting things away when they were done. I also learned that our child can fold!

I think it's time I got someone else involved in doing the laundry.

Primo and Segundo

Just back from an ultrasound. The baby is measuring in the 58th percentile - much bigger than his big brother at this stage and a very decent size for a (sort of?) twin. They estimate him at three pounds, one ounce. He's measuring about a week bigger than his gestational age. Well within the average range, they assured me - but, I was surprised. Got my glucose tolerance results back, too. Normal - despite all the milkshakes. My iron was low, though - so they put me on a supplement. I had plenty of iron during my pregnancy with Luca, as I craved STEAK. Lots of it. (The first I had had in years). But, not so much this time around.

Tonight is our first Parent Night at school. The kids will be demonstrating some of their favorite lessons and we will learn a bit about what goes on throughout their day. Luca is generally pretty tired after school, so I am worried he will be full-on cranky by the time we go at six o'clock. Update to follow...

Mix Wit

Saw Mix Wit through my friend Ama's blog.

I know, I know. But it's funny...

I found this on Looky, Daddy. He got it from Queen of Spain.

I can do it MYSELF

Last night, because it was taking him so long to get into the car, I used my "alpha" voice on Luca. "GET.INTO.THE.CAR. NOW." I practically growled. He paused, then looked at me with a big smile. "Goddamnit?" He said, in a question. As if to say - isn't that what you really want to say? Nice.

I got bitten by fire ants on Friday night when we were out and about. The little buggers got me good and now my right foot is itchy and swollen. I've been soaking in warm epson salt baths and applying various anti-itch and anti swelling creams to keep it at bay. It drives me crazy at night. So - at three a.m. - I went into the bathroom to get some Benadryl antihistamine cream to stop the itch. This morning - I discovered that I had put butt cream on my foot instead.

We've been encouraging Luca to dress himself. He's got the underwear and pants under control, but we are still working on shirts. He put on his own bottoms this morning, and then some. Two pairs of underwear under his shorts. He continually checked on them throughout the morning while we were at the park - either admiring his work or checking to make sure they were both still there.
